SWE Launches eLearning Series to Support Diversity in Engineering Matters

SWE’s new eLearning series, Diversity in Engineering Matter, explores the importance of promoting diversity into your business.

SWE believes diversity is the driver of innovation in the workplace. In an effort to promote diversity in the engineering field, SWE recently released a new eLearning series: Diversity in Engineering Matters. The initial rollout provides SWE members with free access to two new eLearning modules which illustrate how to develop a work culture that respects and values diverse viewpoints and voices. The modules explore the importance of promoting diversity throughout the workplace, providing standard definitions, engineering case studies and educational tools that outline the best practices for integrating the information into your business.

Diversity in Engineering Matters is a part of SWE’s Diversity and Inclusion program. The program seeks to define various forms of unconscious bias through a data-driven approach, and to determine how that bias impacts women and minorities, ultimately providing steps to reduce bias through reflection and collaboration.

Diversity in Engineering Matters is composed of a series of narrated eLearning modules. Each module walks participants through each stage of their diversity initiative:

  • Importance of Diversity in the Workplace: Facilitate a culture that includes and respects diverse perspectives in your workplace.
  • Confronting Gender Bias: Characterize the building blocks of cultural competence within your organization.
  • Managing Diverse Teams: Recognize the benefits and challenges of managing teams with different perspectives while also providing the building blocks of cultural competence for managers.
  • Mentoring, Coaching and Sponsorship: Define the differences between coaching, mentoring and sponsorship, and encourage women to seek the support and relationships that will grow their careers.
  • Impacts of a Global Workplace: Evaluate changes in the business landscape, including understanding why more education and experience are needed to navigate through cultural misunderstandings. Learn about examining culture as it relates to the impact on work, the way we communicate with one another for a common purpose and how a virtual work environment can impact the complexity of communication.
