Stay Connected: A Letter from SWE’s Collegiate Director

Be sure to renew your membership to maximize your SWE experience in FY16. But more importantly, stay in touch, stay connected.
Become A Swe Leader
[social_warfare]

Time flies when you’re having fun! I’m amazed that FY15 is already coming to a close. Hopefully you’ve completed or are in the process of finishing your leadership transitions and are kicking off invigorating summer plans. Be sure to renew your membership to maximize your SWE experience in FY16. The best deal is the Collegiate to Career (C2C) option, which will cover SWE membership for all of your college years and your first year as a professional for only $50. Get networking opportunities, leadership and management skill development, scholarship eligibility, and so much more: what else could you ask for from a professional organization?

My final monthly challenge for you is to stay in touch. You can interpret this in multiple ways.

  • Stay in touch with the world. Whether it’s reading the newspaper on a daily basis or traveling outside of your home city, take every opportunity you can to learn about issues outside of your “bubble.” SWE Annual and Region Conferences are an excellent way to put this into practice.
  • Stay in touch with people important to you. I referenced this previously in my March letter, but I want to reiterate how important it is to maintain close relationships with those who have supported you in all stages of your life. They helped form the foundation of your career and will be instrumental as you take on new challenges.
  • Stay in touch with yourself. Like the New Radicals sing, “You only get what you give.” (Who hasn’t contracted “the dreamers disease” at least once in their lives?) Know what you want and stick to your guns when you believe in something. Actions speak louder than words-take a leap of faith if it means doing something that you’re passionate about.

It’s been an honor to serve as your FY15 Collegiate Director. Thank you so much to the collegiates who make SWE such a successful organization, the professionals-counselors, faculty advisors, and mentors-who empower collegiates and support their efforts, and the leaders who have enriched my experiences immensely. I truly appreciate your dedication and commitment to SWE.

I’m excited to introduce you to the FY16 Collegiate Director Melissa Lindsey. I’ll be continuing my SWE career as the FY16 SWEFL Coordinator and look forward to connecting with even more SWEsters. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time at nicole.woon@swe.org. Know that SWE is with you every step of the way in your career and that a friend/mentor is only an email or phone call away!

Wishing you the brightest of futures,
