We know you’re probably sleeping in late, laying out on the beach and making 2K16 summer memories, but we wanted to remind you the deadline to submit for the PepsiCo/SWE Student Engineering Challenge is less than a month away.

Our second annual challenge will give collegiates an opportunity to create solutions to improve PepsiCo’s beverage dispensing equipment performance. You’ll be challenged to get creative and use what you’ve learned as an engineering student to develop technical solutions to promote sustainability, improve trade quality and increase productivity of PepsiCo’s beverage fountain machines.

Collegiates can compete in teams of up to four people, with at least one person holding an active SWE membership. The top three teams will earn cash prizes and a trip to Philadelphia for WE16. The deadline for submissions is August 5, 2016.

Special Recognition of 2015 Winners

Last year’s challenge definitely set the tone for innovation and creativity. Winners included Amanda Harvey and Megan Henderson from Oklahoma State University who tied with another team for first place. They designed “Custom Cola Creations,” a machine that could be made available in supermarkets to reuse and refill 2-Liter bottles. The competition’s second place winner, Elsa Johnson from the University of Houston submitted “Tidal Energy for PepsiCo,” a project utilizing turbines in tidal streams to generate a pure renewable energy source for manufacturing facilities in Delaware.
