I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural WE India conference, Reach Out to Reach Up, on 7- 8 April, 2016 at The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, Pune.  It was a lot of hard work and years in the making that finally came to culmination last week.  And it did not disappoint! Over the course of 2 days, 359 women attended sessions led by a variety of speakers with diverse backgrounds, from a technical and personal standpoint.  I was very moved by how open and honest these women were to share their stories and enjoyed lots of excitement and enthusiasm over the course of the conference.

WE IndiaNetworking was in full swing and there was never a break in conversation. I was able to meet amazing women like Smita Tharoor who spends her time working to empower Indian women and Abha Banerjee, the “Oprah of India” who taught us that nothing survives in its original form and we all need to continue to grow. Finally, Susmita Narayan, Manager for Sales Operations Global Services, Keysight Technologies,  shared her personal story of how she manages work and life.

In true SWE manner, there was a celebration of achievements to highlight the great work the SWE Pune Affiliate and our SWE ambassadors are doing as well as our sponsors in the area who support our mission.

WE IndiaOne of our biggest markets is India. The number of women graduating with engineering degrees in India is truly amazing! And now with a conference such as WE India, we hope to be able to support women who pursue and advance their careers as engineers and leaders in India by providing opportunities to meet peers, network with mentors, share work/life expertise, learn and grow, and build leadership skills.
