SWE is pleased to have been able to complete four successful Wow! Innovation Challenges during FY16. As you’ve probably heard, these challenges were created to encourage innovative outreach techniques that will make an impact our future female engineers. Before we announce the date of our next challenge, let’s congratulate Drexel University, who won SWE’s fourth FY16 Wow! Innovation Challenge! Take a look at their unique approach to volunteer management.

FY17 Wow! Innovation Challenge #1

Many outreach events are targeted towards grades 5-8. For this challenge, we want to know how does your section develop outreach events or programs for high school students (grades 9-12)? What do you include to guarantee that the event or program positively impacts a high school student’s perception and awareness of STEM careers? When preparing your content, please draw on current or past programs hosted by your section.

Submission Period

Submissions will be open between August 23 – September 20, 2016. Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM CT on Tuesday, September 20.

How to Apply

Visit the Wow! Innovation Challenge page and click on “Apply for FY17 Wow! Innovation Challenge #1 here.” Fill out the required information in the form and add your content.

Required Content

Through the form on the Wow! Innovation Challenge page, you will be asked to submit a video, PowerPoint, or Snapguide your creative approach to the challenge topic. Supporting media such as event photos and/or agendas are recommended, but not required. Videos should be submitted as a YouTube link.

Recognition

One section/MAL will be awarded a $500 outreach stipend, featured on SWE social media, and the SWE All Together blog. The winning resources will also be posted on swe.org to be used by others. While individuals, sections and MALs are encouraged to apply, all stipend checks will be made out to a section or MAL organization.
