Why I’m Excited about WE Local

“I’m excited for WE Local because we now have some way to give region conferences the impact the annual conference has.. to give our membership something extraordinary and life-changing in a more local setting,” said Ashley Pietz. SWE Santa Clara Valley.

“I’m excited about WE Local because it offers a chance to learn and network with all of our SWE friends,” explained Katharine Gamble, SWE Baltimore-Washington.

“I’m excited about WE Local because it’s the first time we get to come together not just within our regions, within our state borders, but to include a larger group across the country,” said Ali Anderson, SWE West Virginia University.

“I’m excited about WE Local because it is new. It will incorporate the best and all the lessons learned from past conferences,” explained Mary Ann Walsh, SWE Pittsburgh.

Why You Should Go to WE Local Events

“You should go to WE Local because it’s going to be a great opportunity to learn and network. It’s going to offer a lot of different sessions,” continued Gamble.

“You should go to WE Local for the chance to see an amazing city as well as network with some great, new collegiate and professional members,” explained Ali Anderson, SWE West Virginia University.

“I think everyone should attend a We Local event because you have awesome networking opportunities. You get to be a woman engineer with other women engineers. You get to learn about the Society, about a local area that you may not have known before, and just have fun,” said Ashley Pietz. SWE Santa Clara Valley.

What is WE Local?

WE Local is a new program that was developed to organize local SWE conferences and to improve the member experience. The purpose of these conferences is to bring the excitement, energy, and learning environment of SWE’s annual conference directly to the member’s backyard. The first two events are in Pittsburgh and San Jose.

Why WE Local?

Ongoing member engagement and interaction happens at SWE’s Region and Section levels. However, in order to meet the demand of Region conferences, SWE headquarters launched WE Local. By sharing your expertise at WE Local conferences, you make an invaluable contribution to the advancement of women in STEM and to the individual learning of all attendees and participants.

WE Local Target Audience

SWE is expecting the majority of conference participants to be similar or identical to the SWE annual conference including women engineers, managers, executives, students and academia. However, the notable difference of these participants to the annual conference is they will work or reside in the regional area.

SWE is estimating up to 400 attendees at each WE Local conference and up to 12 sessions going on at any one time. For more information visit welocal.swe.org or if you have questions regarding the process, contact welocal@swe.org
