Be Part of WE17, SWE’s Annual Conference

In October, SWE is hosting its annual conference in Austin, Texas and we want our top SWENexters there. Applications are now open to rising junior and senior high school SWENexters for our Global Innovator Awards.

All middle school and high school SWENexters are invited to attend  Invent It. Build It., the hands-on engineering event held this year on October 28th, 2017 at WE17. Register today! 

SWENext Global Innovator Award

The SWENext Global Innovator Award recognizes the outstanding young women shaping the future of SWE by developing an engineering identity in themselves and others. These awards are given to SWENexters in their junior and senior years of high school. Award recipients will have built a solid foundation toward future success and fulfillment in engineering by demonstrating intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm, persistence, and leadership. Learn more about our previous SWENext Global Innovator Award recipients.

SWENext Global Innovator Award Recipients receive the following:

  • An all-expenses paid trip to WE17, the SWE Annual Conference in Austin, for themselves and one adult chaperone
  • Recognition for their accomplishments during the Celebrate SWE awards banquet
  • A 3D printed trophy and a certificate of achievement
  • Participation in the SWENext High School Leadership Academy
  • Participation in the Invent It. Build It. event as an engineer’s assistant
  • SWE Commemorative Shirt: ”This is what a future engineer looks like” and other goodies

SWENext Judith Gray Global Innovator Award

The SWENext Judith Gray Award celebrates young women who have charted their own path in the engineering fields and who strive to elevate STEM in their community.  In honor of Ms. Gray, this award is given to SWENexters in rural areas during their junior and senior years of high school who have excelled in their scientific pursuits by demonstrating an innovative mentality and a dedication to mentorship.

Francis Judith Gray (1942-2015)
Ms. Gray, a resident of Petersburg, IN. graduated from Indiana University in l966 receiving a BA in Plant Sciences. She served on numerous public boards including chairwoman of the IU Alumni Association l987-l988 and served on the Board of Managers from l985 to 1989.  At the time of her death she was the Executive Director of the Orange County Economic Development Partnership.  She was an advocate for student learning, helping to ensure that technology and advanced learning opportunities were available for all students.  She was very supportive of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programs, including engineering, robotics, and biomedical programs.  Although she did not hold an engineering degree, she encouraged rural students, and especially female students, to pursue STEM-related studies.

To be eligible for the SWENext Judith Gray Global Innovator Award, applicant must live in a rural area as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. If you live outside the U.S., please contact us at outreach@swe.org to determine eligibility)
