If you are already connected to a SWENext Club, show the next generation of engineers what SWE is all about by helping them win the SWENext Club Challenge. As you may have heard, the SWENext Club Challenge is a new global competition promoting teamwork, innovation, and ingenuity. This is an exciting opportunity for SWENext Clubs to be part of WE17 in Austin, Texas this October! The deadline to apply for the SWENext Club Challenge is September 15, 2017 at 11:59 pm CT.
The theme of WE17 is “Always Connecting…Always Engineering.” With this in mind, SWE is challenging SWENext Clubs to design a new product idea that allows group meetings to be more inclusive for members attending through video chat systems such as Skype, Snapchat and FaceTime. SWENext Club members can decide whether these video chats are executed via tablet, computer or any other capable technology. Additionally, each club is required to submit a 3-minute video about their club, product submission, and school or community involvement.
The winning club will be determined based on the functionality, innovation, and design of their invention along with their video submission. SWENext Clubs are strongly encouraged to work on their challenge submission with a SWE collegiate or professional section.
Challenge: Engineer a better experience when connecting with people online. Many people use video chat to connect when face-to-face interaction isn’t an option. Design a physical product, app, or bot that enhances conversations when used with systems like Skype, Snapchat and/or FaceTime.
The winning club receives the following:
- All-expenses paid trip to WE17, in Austin for four club members and one SWE advisor/chaperone.
- Worldwide recognition for the club’s accomplishments on the SWENext website.
- Booth space to showcase their winning prototype at the Invent it. Build it. Outreach EXPO.
- A $500 stipend for future club projects.
- SWE Commemorative Shirts: “This is what a future engineer looks like” and other goodies for the whole club.
