Take Advantage of Our Career Enhancement Series Before WE17

CES workshops before WE17 are designed for: Emerging technical leaders; executives in industry, academia, or government; experienced technical professionals; seasoned technical leaders and managers.

The Career Enhancement Series (CES) offers four high-quality, interactive professional sessions. They are taught by subject matter experts and designed to help participants develop expertise and hone their skillsets in a variety of subject areas. All four workshops are Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Austin, TX, the day before WE17 begins. WE17, the annual conference of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), is October 26-28 at the Austin Convention Center (ACC).

CES workshops are designed for: Emerging technical leaders; executives in industry, academia, or government; experienced technical professionals; seasoned technical leaders and managers. These four-hour sessions will cover management strategy, leadership development, work/life balance, communication skills, and more. CES Sessions require an extra fee and attendance is limited, so register now.

Earn .4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) with each CES workshop. SWE is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).  SWE complies with the ANSI IACET Standard, which is recognized internationally as a standard of excellence in instructional practices.  Because of this accreditation, SWE is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.

Facing the Leadership Challenge: How to Unlock the Door to Opportunities, Influence, and Income

Foundations of Public Speaking and Effective Presentations

Are you satisfied with your public speaking skills and style? Do you know how to write a compelling presentation or speech? If you answered no to either of these questions, this CES is for you!  Learn techniques to help with public speaking nervousness (shaky hands, shaky voice, etc.) and become a poised and self-confident presenter. In addition, this CES will identify best practices for delivering focused world-class presentations in a memorable structure. And because we learn best by doing, this session provides the opportunity to write a short presentation and break into groups to practice your new skills.

By the end of the interactive workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize how to use the power of stories to make presentations more interesting
  • Identify how to be persuasive- A Simple Process to Help Persuade Any Audience
  • Explain how to write a world-class, compelling, speech in Minutes (Versus Days or Weeks).
  • Recognize how to use PowerPoint and visual aids (Lecture only)

Speaker Bio:  Abigail Walsh has a degree in Hospitality and spent 20 years in corporate leadership.  In each of her management roles, she built a reputation for being a turnaround specialist.  At Baylor Hospital, Abbie took her department from an under 20% patient satisfaction score to over 95% within her first year. As a result, she was appointed to the Patient Satisfaction Improvement Team for the hospital and awarded the Rose Award for service and excellence. Abbie is also the first franchise owner for The Leaders Institute and her energy and humor makes her an audience favorite.

Pivot Your Career:  Strategies for Planning, Designing, and Facilitating Your Own Second Act Success, Professionally and Personally.

In this workshop, we will delve into the techniques and strategies to identify the what, why, how, when, and where for pivoting your career and your life in a direction that make sense for you. Please note that this workshop will encourage confidentiality among participants, so we can be honest about our goals, needs, wants, opportunities, and choices, to pivot ourselves towards a path of true joy and success. Here’s to your triumphant Second Act!

By the end of the interactive workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize how to determine whether you want to pivot your career and where you want (and need!) to go next.
  • Identify how to design, launch, and facilitate your pivot plan, including a careful exit strategy from your current job.
  • Gain insight into your true goals, passions, needs, wants, and previously untapped talents, and identify, assess, and access the matching opportunities.

Caught Between a Rock and a Workplace
