SWE is proud to endorse Alexa Café, an iD Tech program and tech camp geared specifically to girls, ages 10-15, that allows them to try engineering and technology activities and learn more about STEM in a relaxed and non-intimidating environment. This is an exciting new development in SWE’s K-12 Outreach efforts.
Programs like Alexa Café are so important to SWE outreach and our objective to get more young girls interested in exploring engineering. As part of the partnership, SWENexters can save $50 on registration fees for Alexa Café programs by using the promo code SWE2016 (expires July 7, 2016).
We encourage you to share the Alexa Café curriculum to girls in your community as part of your outreach efforts, and encourage them to get involved in SWE’s free program SWENext for girls under the age of 18.
The Society has entered into a partnership with iD Tech, an organization providing summer camp programs offering students high-energy, hands-on technology education. This partnership will allow SWE to provide needs-based scholarships this summer to 10 SWENexters so they can attend Alexa Café Day Camp, which has been called one of the top tech camps for girls and teens worldwide.
Girls who attend the camp will build tech skills in a fun setting. Alexa Café will also teach participants to program, develop wearable electronics, create 3D-printed objects, design games, produce films, build website and more. The camp’s curriculum has been endorsed by SWE.
Scholarships will cover camp tuition for Alexa Café day camp. Please note, this is a needs-based scholarship and financial need and access to technology/engineering classes will be given the most weight when reviewing the applications.
