For Valentine’s Day, SWE members are recognizing their husbands and other loved ones for all of the support they give to help women engineers succeed. If you have a supportive significant other, please tell us all about it using the hashtag #VDay2017 and tag us @SWEtalk.

Vernon and I have known each other since high school, so when I decided to major in Electrical Engineering we knew it would be a challenging journey. From the beginning, he has always been supportive and encouraging. Since joining the Tampa Bay Section of SWE, I’ve taken on leadership positions while balancing work and family. For every meeting, project, grant, presentation and conference that I’ve had to attend for SWE, Vernon has been my main source of encouragement. When I have reservations about attending a SWE event whether near or far, his first response is always “GO!”…(Although he probably just wants to watch Football without me asking 21 questions.)
Helping with crafts, proof reading documents, setting up events, I can always count on his support both emotionally and physically. He’s an amazing father to our son, Landon, who I never have to worry about when I’m out of town for SWE. What I admire most about Vernon is that he never complains about picking up any “slack” at home. He realizes how important SWE is to me, and makes it a priority to consistently provide encouragement. It’s also been 15 years, so he knows how to get our family back on track when things are in need of calibration. It truly does take a village and I am so grateful to have my wonderful husband in that village.
