Humans vs. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the stuff of movies, but what will be the future of robots and more specifically the role of AI across a variety of industries? The Human Intelligence vs. Artificial Intelligence Panel at WE Local Europe in Prague in May, 2018 discussed the current and future state of artificial intelligence, and how it will augment, support, drive, and challenge human intelligence as well as existing economic models.
Jonna Gerken is the FY18 President of the Society of Women Engineers and a working mom. She is a manager in manufacturing engineering at Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). Jonna is married and has and two young, active boys. Her passion for ‘making it work’ for working moms is part of the “Always Connecting…Always Engineering” theme for her term as SWE President.
Having gained an MA in Classics and an MSc in Supply Chain Management, Caroline joined Caterpillar as a graduate in 2001 and subsequently worked in a number of roles within the Diesel Engine sector. Starting in Supply Chain then moving into Product Management and then into Engineering roles, including Engineering Manager for Cooling & Lubrication systems, she was responsible for the development & validation of our Tier 4 engines. As Engineering technical data manager she was responsible for Design Change and Bill of Material and as Product Manager for our 3 litre product. More recently she’s broadened her responsibilities to include Core business systems, Data Analytics and the development of Caterpillar’s Industrial Power System Division’s new Digital Services department. This includes the design, development and commercialisation of IoT assets, the analysis of product & business data to improve product performance in field and the deployment of Digital technologies to improve internal efficiencies, customer experience and employee welfare. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the role is exploring how developments in Digital such as Augmented Reality/ AI/ Big Data can be applied to a mature industry to yield previously untapped benefits. She is based in Peterborough, UK.
Roxana Istrate graduated from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest Faculty of Computer Science in 2015 and joined IBM Research the same year as a Great Minds intern. During the internship she worked on distributed scaling of sparse matrix operations, and contribute to win the 2016 IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS) best paper award. After completing her internship, Roxana started her PhD with IBM Research in collaboration with the Queens University of Belfast where she currently is focused on automatizing the architectural design of convolutional neural networks for image classification.

Starting June 2017, Alina is the Director of Automation Solutions Business Center in Cluj, being responsible for 5 Business Units and more than 550 employees.
Alina joined Emerson in 2011 as a Team Leader for the newly formed Roxar customer service team and further developed with Roxar and Flow groups, up to Global Customer Care Manager.
Over the last 3 years Alina was instrumental in rolling out and growing the Women in STEM Cluj Chapter and she has recently become the Europe Region I leader (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Moldavia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Turkey).
Born and raised in Medias, Romania, Alina studied Chemical Engineering at „Babes Bolyai University“ in Cluj-Napoca and holds a master degree awarded by the same university. In 2018, Alina completed the EMBA program facilitated by Hull University in UK.
She started her career as a chemical engineer in a Romanian company, with subsidiaries around the country. Alina progressed in the same company in different roles, such as: quotations and techincal department leader, procurement department leader, sales and service director and commercial director.
Miloš Kováč is leading Integrated Aircraft Cockpit team at Honeywell Europe. His team is leading cross organizational technical implementations for new cockpit avionics installations for broad range of airplane manufacturers like Pilatus, Dassault, Airbus, Leonardo helicopters and others. His focus is on helping new technologies and innovations to have real world prototyping opportunities. He has a passion for combining his technical experience with personal development perspective.
