SWE Awards

The 2019 SWE Individual Awards advance and honor important contributions of women at all stages of their careers and recognize the successes of SWE members and individuals who enhance the engineering profession. The efforts, courage, and skills of those honored will be celebrated with an Awards Gala at the 2019 SWE Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, Nov. 7-9.

Each year, SWE acknowledges recipients in 19 award different categories. These recipients have made great strides in engineering careers and in life. Some are just beginning to lead the next generation of women engineers, and others whose work has directly impacted our mission and women engineers for decades. In the process, we bring awareness to the many contributions of women engineers and the individuals and companies who champion diversity.

Some past recipients last year were Frances H. Arnold, Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology and Deborah O’ Bannon, Ph.D., P.E., FSWE from University of Missouri- Kansas City. Frances received the Achievement Award for discovering and applying directed evolution, creating a paradigm shift in bio-engineering, and for an inspiring career of accomplishments in research, mentoring, and tech transfer. Deborah was recognized as well with the Distinguished Engineering Education Award for revolutionizing civil engineering education; serving as a role model and mentor to female STEM faculty; and for demonstrating excellence in engineering, leadership, and community. Our award recipients date back to 1986 as we continue to celebrate the hard work and leadership of women in engineering.
