The Pacific Northwest may bring images of coffee shops (we've got lots of them), fresh seafood (it's delicious), and endless rain (overrated) to mind. You may associate the area with tech (Microsoft, Expedia), aerospace (Boeing, Blue Origin), or shopping (Amazon, Costco). Regardless of your connection to the area, there's so much to discover when you attend WE Local Bellevue on April 5-6, 2019!
The schedule is now live and we are excited by the variety of topics being presented. Figuring out how to transition between cities, from being a collegiate to a professional, or to a new job? Looking for how improv can help you master the moment? Determining the best strategy for your SWE section moving forward? You can take advantage of all of this and more thanks to our illustrious speakers. I'm particularly excited by our two plenary panels in the works - "What's Your Moonshot?" and "Wo(men) Leadership: Disrupting the Pipeline." Both of these showcase accomplished leaders sharing how they address complex challenges and champion culture in their organizations. Check out the full agenda here.
Our career fair will be in full swing featuring local engineering and technology organizations interested in recruiting top talent for job openings. You'll have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with recruiters and potentially participate in interviews directly on-site.
Some preparation tips:
- Be sure to update your resume on swe.org and mark yourself as attending WE Local.
- Dress your best - watch this webinar to learn how to carry yourself with confidence and dress in a way that will highlight you in a positive, professional light.
- Practice your elevator pitch and have a couple questions you want to ask recruiters!
The WE Achieve Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening is always a highlight of the weekend. This celebratory occasion includes a sit-down plated dinner, a keynote speaker, and an awards presentation recognizing the accomplishments of your fellow women engineers. Last year's WE Local Portland welcomed Simplexity Product Development CEO Dorota Shortell, who explored how to unlock your potential, demystified what it takes to be a CEO, and handed out her favorite leadership books to enthusiastic audience members along the way. If last year's keynote was any indication, there's no doubt our audience is in for a treat this year. Closing Keynote details will be coming in two weeks!
And WE Local volunteers enable us to bring WE Local Bellevue to life. We're currently searching for individuals who want to help out, whether you're manning the check-in booth for attendees, serving as a navigational resource, or scoring posters for our collegiate competition. Volunteer for just two hours and receive 20% off your Premier or Career Fair registration! Learn more and sign up here for general volunteer activities, or email Katrina Cribbins to sign up as a collegiate competition judge. Deadline to apply is March 22, 2019.
Seeking activities to do during your conference downtime? Get your early morning run in at Bellevue Downtown Park. See renowned glass master Dale Chihuly's three-tiered, multicolored chandelier hanging in Lincoln Square (and follow it up with a visit to the Chihuly Garden and Glass at the Seattle Center). Check out the latest in the craft and design world at the Bellevue Arts Museum. Shop 'til you drop at the Bellevue Collection and the Bravern. Venture to the other side of Lake Washington and explore all that Seattle has to offer, from Pike Place Market to the Space Needle to the Museum of Pop Culture.
We can't wait to host hundreds of engineers in Bellevue this spring! Learn more about the conference and register.
