Meet SWE’s FY19 Treasurer, Karen Roth

Karen Roth is the SWE Treasurer for the 2019 fiscal year. Outside of her role with SWE, she works for the Air Force Research Lab as a government civilian. She became involved with SWE as a collegiate member at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where she received her bachelor’s degree in software engineering. From there, she went on to receive her master’s in systems engineering from Cornell University Online and her MBA from Indiana University Online.

As SWE’s FY19 Treasurer, Karen is focused on the fiduciary health of the society, working with the finance committee and development grants committee to maintain a budget and secure funding.

“The best advice that I can give to women engineers who want to be leaders in their career is to be your authentic self. There are times where I’ve been stressed at work, anxious at work, and it was all times where I felt like I was having to change myself to fit into the job environment.” […] “If I can’t go to work and be who I am, I’m not doing the best job that I can be doing and being the best leader that I can be.”

–Karen Roth, SWE Treasurer
