Dayna Johnson, P.E., is the SWE Director of Professional Excellence for the 2019 fiscal year. Having always appreciated technical logic and work, Dayna pursued an education in engineering, receiving her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and working as both an engineer and manager. After graduation from Valparaiso University, she worked for eight years as a civil engineer for municipalities in the Chicagoland area designing water and wastewater treatment plants. Though she loved what she did and the technical aspect of her work, she realized she wanted to work with people more and went on to receive her master’s in engineering management.

Dayna joined GE in 2012 as a commercial manager, leading large teams through the bidding process to develop proposals for high-voltage electrical substations and now works for GE as a business development manager.

Johnson has been an active member of SWE since joining as a collegiate member in 2000. She has served as Chicago regional section president and section representative and as Region H lieutenant governor and treasurer. As FY19 Director of Professional Excellence, Dayna is responsible for the Awards & Recognition Committee and the Curriculum Committee.

Aspire / Advance / Achieve” are all aspects of a person’s career: you figure out what you want to be when you grow up—you aspire to be that; you find ways to advance, whether that’s getting leadership experience through SWE or learning through SWE, learning from the people around you and the offerings we have; and then, hopefully, you find a way to achieve whatever it is you aspired to.
