Esraa Aburass is a coordinator in the Society of Women Engineers‘ administrative services department. August 27th of 2019 marks her one-year anniversary with SWE. Esraa’s main role is to handle all the accounts receivable and collection processes. Esraa is a recent graduate from Saint Xavier University (SXU) with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and minors in both Middle Eastern Studies and Sociology. In her senior year, Esraa was named SXU’s Lincoln Academy Student Laureate in which Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. Since Esraa is a refugee, she decided to give back and intern at an organization called CAIR-Chicago—an organization with a mission to defend civil rights, fight bigotry and promote tolerance towards any person who is being discriminated against while defending the constitutional rights of all Americans and helping those who cannot attain justice themselves. Esraa’s main job was to reach out to different communities and let them know of their rights as people, whether they be a Muslim, an immigrant or a refugee seeking help. Esraa enjoys playing soccer in her free time and spending time with her family that consist of 10 siblings, 22 nieces and nephews, and her favorite cat, Dusty.

Who is your role model and why?

Khadijah Al-Kubra- The first Muslim woman who was a successful and esteemed businesswoman.

Where are you from/where were you raised?

I am from Palestine, born in Saudi Arabia and Raised in Jordan.

What is your favorite sports team?

Juventus

If you could eat one thing the rest of your life, what would it be?

Watermelon

What is your favorite place in the world?

Jerusalem

What is your favorite thing about your job?

The trust I am surrounded with.
