SWE Magazine Honored for Publishing Excellence
SWE Magazine was honored recently with eight APEX Awards of Excellence and one Grand Award — the highest honor bestowed in this international competition. The competition, now in its 31st year, recognizes outstanding work in publishing, from magazines and newsletters to annual reports, campaigns, social media, and websites.
The Grand Award in design and illustration went to Art Director JoAnn Dickey for the entire Fall 2018 issue. Dickey’s work also earned Awards of Excellence for both the opening spread and the overall design of the article “Shaping Tomorrow’s History — Today,” which appeared in the Spring 2018 issue.
Anne Perusek, director of editorial and publications, received two Awards of Excellence: The Winter 2019 issue garnered the award in the magazines, journals, and tabloids category, while the State of Women in Engineering 2018 research issue was recognized under electronic media–special purpose.
The work of SWE contributors earned Awards of Excellence for feature writing, with Seabright McCabe drawing honors for “Shaping Tomorrow’s History — Today,” from Spring 2018, and Jon Reisfeld for “Women Push the Envelope in Virtual Reality,” which appeared in the Winter 2019 issue.
McCabe received another Award of Excellence, in the departments and columns category, for “School of Innovation Promotes Authentic Learning,” a news story from the Winter 2019 issue. Lastly, McCabe’s “1,000 Efficient Solutions: Bridging the Gap Between Ecology and Economy,” appearing in the Conference 2018 issue, was honored under the green writing category.
