Society of Women Engineers (SWE) members Deena Disraelly and Laura Itle are part of an Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) research team that was recognized with an Honorable Mention Award in the U.S. General Services Administration’s and the Office of Management and Budget’s Government Effectiveness Advanced Research (GEAR) Center challenge.

The GEAR Center competition challenged problem solvers from the public, academia, and industry to build cross-sector, multidisciplinary teams to demonstrate the potential of the GEAR Center.

“Congratulations to the IDA team and partners for their incredible work and effort to develop the award-winning proposal,” said IDA President Dr. David S.C. Chu. “I am delighted at the significant awareness and innovation that the proposal has encouraged among various constituents.”

The proposal, “Secure, Modern, and Mission Capable Credentialing” is the result of a collaboration aiming to improve the customer experience and efficiency of the credentialing process between IDA, West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, West Virginia National Guard, WVReady, University of Maryland-Center for Public Policy and Private Enterprise, and Marshall University College of Information Technology and Engineering.

The team proposed developing an innovative, secure, modern, mission-capable information technology solution hosted by the United States Postal Service to improve the customer experience of navigating the “background check” process and utilizing post offices as local, readily accessible identity verification and credentialing service hubs.

Selected from a pool of highly competitive applicants, the IDA team consists of Deena Disraelly, Laura Itle, John Adams, Steve Olechnowicz, Laura Odell, Mike Dominguez, David Nicholls, Georgia Butcher, Maia Salholz-Hillel, Patricia Sadiq, Linda Garlet, Matt Coursey, and Mike Lippitz.

IDA is a nonprofit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers in the public interest. IDA answers the most challenging U.S. security and science policy questions with objective analysis leveraging extraordinary scientific, technical, and analytic expertise.

Congratulations to Deena Disraelly, Laura Itle and team!
