SWE Executive Director & CEO Karen Horting provides an update on what you need to know for WE19 this November.
Hello! I’m Karen Horting, Executive Director and CEO of the Society of Women Engineers. Welcome to my CEO update.
I can’t believe another SWE annual conference (WE19) is just around the corner! Hopefully, you have booked your hotel room and completed your registration. But don’t worry. There’s still time to join us in Anaheim. This year’s theme is We Live. We Learn. We Lead. And our program has plenty of opportunities for living, learning and leading, beginning with the Leadership Summit taking place on Wednesday afternoon. The Leadership Summit brings together experienced SWE leaders and SWE members interested in furthering their SWE career and participation. This event will give you the opportunity to discover ways in which you can enhance your leadership development while providing support to the backbone of the organization.
To support learning and career development, WE19 will feature more than 250 educational sessions for all career and life stages.
And of course there will be plenty of opportunities to expand your network during the Welcome Ice Cream Social, technical and sightseeing tours, hospitality suites, meet-ups, the SWE Social Media lounge, the SWE Member Center (previously the Spark Center), a sponsored networking lounge — in addition to those spontaneous hallway conversations following a session or business meeting. Lastly, if you are looking for an internship, a new career opportunity, considering graduate school, returning after a career break or just interested to learn the organizations that support gender diversity in the workplace, our Career Fair is not to be missed. Over 400 organizations are part of this year’s Fair, so take advantage of the members-only Career Fair hours on both Thursday and Friday to connect with your next great opportunity.
Post your resume to SWE’s Career Center to land in-person interviews at WE19. Make sure your resume is up to date so that recruiters and hiring managers know you are available to meet face-to-face.
IMPORTANT: Flag your resume to indicate that you are attending WE19 and catch the eye of employers before you get to the career fair floor.
We’ve got some new things planned as well including an expanded registration area at the Convention Center featuring facial recognition, and remote registrations areas at both the Anaheim Hilton and Marriott. If you are already registered, go straight to a self-serve line to print your badge and any event tickets.
To make the most of your time in Anaheim, be sure to download the WE19 app to build your schedule, receive reminders and updates, connect with peers and locate events quickly. And if you aren’t able to join us, watch for opportunities after conference to purchase access to the Virtual Conference, featuring recordings from over 75 conference sessions.
I hope to see you in Anaheim!
