SWE Scholarships support those who identify as a female/woman and are pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor or graduate student program in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science in the United States. In 2020, SWE disbursed 255 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $1,000,000!

  • Upperclass applications will be open December 1, 2020 – February 15, 2021.
  • Freshman applications will be open March 1 , 2021 – May 1, 2021.

Scholarships are typically awarded in May (sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students) and July (freshmen students) for use during the upcoming academic year. Scholarship payments and announcements are made in September.

All SWE Scholarship applicants must be planning to attend a school with ABET-accredited programs. Undergraduate applicants must be planning to study an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year. Masters and PhD candidates must be enrolled or accepted at a school with undergraduate ABET-accredited programs in engineering, computing, or technology.

  • Scholarships range from $1,000 to $17,000 each and some are renewable
  • Many professional SWE sections offer additional scholarships

Reentry/Non-Traditional Scholarships

The reentry scholarships were established to assist women in obtaining the credentials necessary to reenter the workforce as engineers. These scholarships apply to:

  • Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
  • Students who have been out of the engineering or technology workforce for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
  • Full or part time students
  • Students entering any year of engineering school, including graduate school

The non-traditional scholarships were established to assist women to return to school to obtain an engineering degree. These scholarships apply to:

  • Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
  • Full or part time students
  • Students entering any year of engineering school, including graduate school

There is no minimum GPA requirement for students entering their first year as a reentry or non-traditional student.

Please apply for a freshman or upperclass scholarship based on your class level in the fall semester. Within the scholarship application is an option to choose reentry.
