The SWENext High School Leadership Academy (SHLA) is wrapping up a successful 2020-2021 program cohort in June. Navigating through a difficult year, this program has improved its reach with the ability to provide tons of virtual leadership training and development content available for high school students around the world! Not familiar with SHLA and want to learn more on how to get involved? Click here.
We’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with one of SHLA’s sponsors, Motorola Solutions Foundation to put together a panel of engineering professionals from different backgrounds and career levels. Check out this session titled “Careers in Public Safety”!
In this discussion, each panelist was able to share their experiences working in the public safety sector. The panelists discussed their department’s area of focus in improving technologies that make a big difference in emergency response situations. SHLA participants reported that they were 100% satisfied with the quality of the speakers and 92% felt that this session had a positive impact on their development. You can view the on-demand recording and more sessions like this one through SWENext TV here.

Thank you SWE for inviting us to interact with the high school girls. The girls were highly engaged and asked excellent questions from the panelist. Event was very well planned and executed by Markita Riley and her team. We look forward to future collaborations with SWENext to promote STEM education in youth.

It was a pleasure to be a part of the SHLA session on “Careers in Public Safety”. SWE has done an excellent job of showing that the engineering profession provides a diversity of career opportunities. Thank you SWE for giving me the occasion to share my career journey as an Engineer.
Richard Nelson
Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of this wonderful panel! The questions from the girls were great, and I really enjoyed talking with the other panelists about what they’ve learned during their career journeys. I love what SWE is doing, and I hope the impact continues to grow in reach!

Thanks for the wonderful opportunity. I enjoyed sharing my experiences with the group and was impressed by how interested the students were in learning more about User Experience Design and career prospects and courses to help build a career in this field. Kudos to SWE for giving them the opportunity to meet industry folks and hear about our day-to-day here at Motorola Solutions.
A special thank you to Kirti Maheshwari and her team for developing the next generation of leaders, engineers, and STEM professionals! Learn more about what Motorola Solutions Foundation is doing to improve the lives of communities here.
