Announcing the SWE Africa Advisory Board

SWE recently launched an Africa Advisory Board to organize, inform, and guide the Society’s growth in the region. Learn more about the Advisory Board and activities happening across the continent.

Building upon the progress made by the SWE Africa Task Force in FY21 and FY22, the advisory board will provide unique knowledge, skills, and guidance to inform the development of SWE’s programs and services in Africa. The advisory board is organized across four regions:

i. East: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Comoros, Seychelles, Madagascar, and Mauritius

ii. West: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo

iii. Central/South: Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Eswatini (Swaziland), Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Congo

iv. North: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Chad, and Western Sahara

This FY23, the SWE Africa Advisory Board is led by the following individuals:

  • Umi Kerre, East Africa Region Advisor
  • Chipo Tambo, Central & South Africa Region Advisor
  • Stella Chukwu, West Africa Region Advisor

  • Rose-Margaret Itua, Advisor

As a result of the efforts of the task force, and now the advisory board, SWE has seen growth of its programs and engagement on the continent. The SWE network boasts 14 Global Affiliates in the DRC, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Zambia, as well as 21 of Global Ambassadors across the continent.
