The purpose of the HeForSWE Affinity Group is to grow our inclusion and advocacy efforts by way of increasing male allies in STEM fields. This affinity group seeks to make sustainable efforts towards a more diverse and inclusive culture where women and other underrepresented gender engineers are recognized as essential members of their teams and companies. HeForSWE aims at being a meaningful resource for SWE members by providing multiple perspectives on gender inclusivity.
To kick off our spotlight month, we’d like to introduce you to our FY25 team and review what we’ve been up to this year, along with how to connect with us.
One of our primary goals for FY24 was to expand our team. The HeForSWE Team grew from three members to 11! Our FY25 team has been focused on translating our vision for the team into defined results and expanding our presence at conferences and through our online networks.
We had the privilege of presenting a Snap Session at WE24 in Chicago, “HeForSWE: Cultivating Inclusion Efforts in Collaboration With Male Diversity Partners,” where a panel of our past and current leads, Danny, Ashley, and Trevor, shared metrics of women in the engineering field, the pipeline representation, and actionable ways to increase allyship and advocacy at both the collegiate and professional levels.
We are thrilled to be featured on an upcoming episode of Diverse: a SWE Podcast! Keep an eye out on the Diverse website for our episode.
The HeForSWE Team will be hosting an interactive open house in February where we will use a variety of tools and methods to ensure the session is engaging for attendees to participate. We look forward to sharing this event with all of you!
Additionally, we plan to prepare proposals for WE25 presentations, and our collegiate chair is working on a guide for collegiate sections on strategies for starting and maintaining a HeForSWE Collegiate AG.
