Empowering Graduate Women in SWE: Meet the GradSWE Affinity Group

As part of their affinity group's spotlight month, GradSWE reviews their mission and highlights their leadership.
Meet the GradSWE Affinity Group

Meet the GradSWE Affinity Group (AG): the graduate student community of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). We are composed of graduate students and professionals engaged in supporting the needs of graduate student members with resources and information necessary for successfully navigating graduate school and professional careers. In these difficult and unprecedented times for women in academia, GradSWE remains undeterred and continues to be the voice for empowering graduate women in SWE.

Empowering graduate women in swe: meet the gradswe affinity group

As we begin the new year with programming, such as planning for the upcoming GradSWE AG Community Sessions at WE25 in New Orleans, we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce the board responsible for everything coming soon!

Composed of 16 talented, diverse graduate students across the U.S. as of FY25, the GradSWE AG leadership is working hard to support graduate student members and GradSWE communities at institutions across the U.S. and Canada.

The GradSWE AG leadership is committed to:

  1. Highlighting the technical achievements of graduate women through Graduate Research Showcases and SWE award nominations
  2. Fostering a community for graduate women at large in SWE, including reuniting each year at annual conference
  3. Connecting GradSWE communities of all sizes to serve the needs of a diverse atmosphere of universities
  4. Champion women in GradSWE into strategic leadership positions (Working Group Leads, Directorates, Board of Directors) within the Society of Women Engineers
  5. Building collaborations with fellow affinity groups to cater to the intersectional needs of our membership with GradSWE AG

GradSWE AG is lucky to have the support and dedication of our passionate leadership. Learn more about our leadership (as of September 2025) and their bios by checking out the “Leadership” page on the GradSWE AG website.
