Hi, I’m Jonna Gerken, FY18 President of the Society of Women Engineers, and this is SWE’s Diverse podcast series. Please remember to add this podcast to your iTunes and like or follow us on social media. Visit swe.org for more details.
Joining me now, as part of our Women Executives in Engineering Podcast Series, is Sylvia Acevedo. She is the CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA. She’s an author, entrepreneur, and an engineer. She’s also a member of SWE.
Thanks for joining us, Sylvia.
First tell us what sparked your interest in being an engineer?
Now, under your leadership, Girl Scouts can earn STEM badges. Tell us about those badges and SWE’s partnership with the Girl Scouts.
It’s important for girls to learn about careers in STEM. Did you know any women engineers when you decided to become one?
After working as a professional engineer, you started your own technology company and sold it.
You joined the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for Hispanics. How is the Girl Scouts working on diversity in STEM?
Sylvia, thank you so much for joining us.
Sylvia Acevedo is CEO of the Girl Scouts.
And I’m Jonna Gerken, for all of us at SWE, thanks for listening.
