Redmond high school swenext club celebrates 2025 coding challenge winners

The Redmond High School (RHS) SWENext Club recently hosted its 2025 App and Game Development Coding Challenge, where middle school students had the chance to combine creativity with coding under the theme “Mission Outer Space!”

Participants could design either an app or a game using the platform of their choice, and the submissions received were full of imagination, STEM connections, and technical skill.

The hope is that through this and similar competitions, we can provide young students with more opportunities to practice and showcase their STEM skills and creativity! Here are this year’s winning projects:

App Development Category

  • 1st Place: Samriddhi K. (GrowSphere)
Samriddhi created an interactive app that simulates plant growth on the International Space Station. By adjusting factors like light, temperature, and water, users can see how different environments impact plant health. This project stood out as both a creative tool and an engaging way to explore real-world science.

Game Development Category

  • 1st Place: Paul C. (Space Adventure Game)
Paul’s game puts you in the role of an astronaut trying to get back to your spaceship. Players dodge asteroids and jump between platforms, and if they’re up for an extra challenge, they can unlock a “flappy bird”-style level with UFOs.
  • 2nd Place: Brian L. (Space Invaders Tribute)
Brian recreated the classic Space Invaders game in Snap, paying homage to the original while showing strong coding skills and an eye for detail.
  • 3rd Place: Andrew B. (Space Invaders with Original Art)
Andrew also tackled Space Invaders but gave the classic a fresh twist by designing his own custom artwork for the game.

We were impressed by the effort and creativity that went into every project submitted. Thank you to all the students who participated. You made this challenge a huge success. We can’t wait to see what you’ll build next year!
