Meet this week’s feature SWE Section, all the way from Region A: SWE San Jose State University. Here’s what events they have coming up, if your in the San Jose area, stop by:
Career Development Workshops
Who: SWE members, representatives from the Career Center
What: Develop professional skills needed to network in industry such as 30-second elevator pitches or resume critique
Where: College of Engineering at SJSU
When: Throughout the semester (dates contingent on members’ availability)
Why: These skills are not taught in school courses and are often hard to refine on your own. We want to prepare our members for life outside of school as much as possible.
SheHacks
Who: SWE members, corporate sponsors/mentors, College of Engineering faculty/staff
What: Provide a learning opportunity and a creative outlet for SWE members through building mobile and/or web applications.
Where: College of Engineering at SJSU
When: TBD
Why: Hackathons are a great way to devote time to developing new skills. It is often too hard to find time during the school week, considering the engineering coursework.
We also want to take a minute to highlight two social media campaigns the SWE SJSU section has running:
#MentorshipMonday and #ScholarshipSunday
Elated to see yet another section with Mentorship as a running theme throughout their section-life. Definitely take the time to ‘Like’ SWE SJSU on Facebook and follow their #MentorshipMonday campaign. SWE SJSU also carries #ScholarShipSunday – yet another fantastic campaign featuring the section’s personal experiences with scholarship. Our HQ #SWEscholar campaign couldn’t be more supportive.
