Episode 97: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage with Latina Leader, Eileen Vélez-Vega
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, SWE is highlighting Hispanic women engineers. For our first podcast during Hispanic Heritage Month, Marissa Doyen, Latinos Affinity Group Lead of the Society of Women Engineers interviews Eileen Vélez-Vega, vice president at Kimley-Horn and a director on SWE’s board of directors. In this episode, Eileen discusses her career path in STEM, the significance of being a Latina leader within SWE and her company and obstacles she has faced as a minority in engineering.
About Eileen Vélez-Vega: 
Vice-President at Kimley-Horn and a Director on SWE’s Board of Directors. Eileen earned a Bachelor’s from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM), and a Master’s in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. Her SWE journey began as a UPRM collegiate member which sparked her involvement that has resulted in 20 years of an amazing SWE career, having served in local, regional, and society positions. Eileen started her career in 2003 as a research civil engineer in the U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Today, she is one of the managing partners of Kimley-Horn Puerto Rico, LLC, and contributed to the effort of establishing this subsidiary as the first Caribbean office created by Kimley-Horn.
