SWE CMRIT Keeps College Students Engaged During Pandemic - SWE CMRIT

On 24th March, 2020 while most of the nation was having dinner, watching television, getting out of work, or just eagerly anticipating tomorrow, the ‘Prime Minister of India’ took over all media channels and announced news that left us all mind boggled for a moment.

Suddenly there was no school tomorrow, no work to attend, nothing — except to stay at home.

One year forward from that historic moment forever engraved in stone, all of us are still battling this invisible demon ruling the world that came upon us, without notice.

Through all the emotional and mental turmoil, we have learned, experienced, thrived and survived— something no one in this present generation has ever experienced before. It was totally unexpected and yet our spirit is still intact, and the world is fighting back every day to kick this invisible monster out into the deepest grave in the universe, and show it — that no matter what phase the world is going through — we are always going to bounce back up and fight.

‘Way of Life Amidst COVID’ was an event conducted by SWE CMRIT to celebrate this unyielding force of will all of us possess. To participate in the event, college students and faculty had to submit a photo and story about their lockdown time in India; from the wonderful memories made, to the bad situations encountered and to the life survived — because every moment has taught something and needs to be recognized in order to fully enjoy the much better ones coming ahead.

To all the participants … your submissions have helped us all look at things from a different perspective. Thank you for that gift.

Here’s to the better times that are much closer than ever before! Stay positive.

Contest winner: Ms. Madhavi Aitha

Mother Earth always protects her children from destructive forces — even from CORONA. She knows better about the needs of her children. What to give and when to give? Even though she is hurt by us due to the concrete world of urbanization, she is excusing our mistakes and protecting us. There’s a lot to learn from her.

MOTHER EARTH was very happy, being a mother, when we came on to this earth. She provided us soil, water and air abundantly to live our lives with her selfless love. Any mother will feel happy when a small child jumps on her lap even if it is painful to her. Likewise, she was mesmerized when we started exploring and learn how to live on her. We are leading comfortable life on the earth because she is like a cozy womb which provides us shelter, security, protection and nourishment for our survival. She is the way and hope of our life.

We inherited, adapted, planned, worked and modified to new lifestyles by running towards advancements as a successful and intelligent species which made her very proud. During this process, at a point in human race, the thinking of the human has been changed to improve our comfort level. Time being, we started exploiting the resources as we became more selfish and greedier.

As a result of this, we saw MOTHER EARTH wounded with environmental pollution, loss of topsoil, droughts, desertification, melting of glaciers, water contamination, air filled with soots, fumes and chemicals, food is poisoned with heavy metals and plastic residues. But she was never angry. She is bearing our unthoughtful actions and burdens. Her love is unconditional. She is perfect in what she has to give her children.

As her children we have failed to return back the same love to her. Let us think with GRATITUDE for all that she has done—and will continue to do—for us. Healing the wounds of MOTHER EARTH is our prime responsibility and the most crucial step to take now which is on our shoulders. Practically, we are helping ourselves because physical destruction of earth extends to us, too.

Irrespective of the age group, many of us have started to realize our own mistakes we have made earlier in life. On a daily basis, every responsible individual should start smaller steps to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE and REFUSE the things that he/she possesses. Understand, try, workout, implement and follow the conservation methods. Working together, MOTHER EARTH can shower more LOVE on us for the coming centuries.
