Biography

Magan Lewis, Ph.D., serves as the Corteva Agriscience Global Technology Adoption Lead for the Crop Protection Discovery and Development group. In her role, she oversees the development, implementation, and compliance of new technology across the globe to enhance product development and agriculture research. From working with UAVs during the day to STEM outreach at night, Magan’s award winning leadership and outreach passion has allowed her to launch “You Be The Chemist” quiz bowls and mentor young scientists globally through Science and Engineering Fairs. Magan is an active member of the Food Security Global Steering Team, co-founded a STEM Camp with her husband, and served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) IF/THEN Ambassador. Magan is a STEM education outreach fanatic, ID&E advocate, and active participant in non-profit Boards. Magan holds a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from North Dakota State University and M.S. and B.S. degrees from the University of Minnesota. She resides in the Des Moines, Iowa-area with her husband and two daughters. The Lewis family enjoys camping, catching frogs, identifying insects, tumbling rocks, traveling, hiking, playing piano, and NDSU Football.

Based on her work with hundreds of thousands of women, she developed a pragmatic and powerful roadmap that guides emerging women leaders from where they are in their careers to where they aspire to be.

Laura Schafer, Emerson

Laura Schafer is the VP/GM of Pervasive Sensing and Connectivity with Emerson, focused on delivering Wireless HART technologies that allow customers to quickly instrument and measure processes for improved production, reliability, safety and sustainability. Laura’s career is rooted in upstream oil and gas, starting as a hydraulic fracturing engineer with Schlumberger in Malaysia in 2002. With Schlumberger, she held positions in Engineering, Product Development, Lab Management, Technical Sales, and Field Operations in the US, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. In 2010, she joined Chevron’s Energy Technology Center in Houston and advised on unconventional completions across the globe. In 2012, she moved to Boulder, Colorado to be close to family and took a role with Micro Motion as the Oil & Gas Marketing Manager.

From 2012 to 2018, she assisted with development, promotion and sale of Flow Solutions suited for challenging oil and gas applications, including high pressure chemical injection and multi-phase flows. In 2018, she served as the VP of Global Sales for the Precision Fluid Control division of Emerson located in Florham Park, New Jersey. In 2020, she joined the Digital Transformation business unit as the Sales and Marketing leader located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Laura holds 5 patents and has numerous publications on upstream technologies. She serves on the board of directors of Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, a non-profit dedicated to sustainable trail development on Colorado’s highest mountains. She has been on the Emerson Women in STEM Board since 2017. In 2016, she received the Emerging Leader Award from the Society of Women Engineers. Laura earned her MS and BS in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Refining and Minor in Public Affairs at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado
