Guest: Diana Omar
Diana Omar is an engineering student at Yale University. She is a 2022 FIRST Tech Challenge Dean’s List Award Winner, Hispanic Heritage Foundation Scholar, and enthusiastic STEM advocate focused on providing opportunities for underrepresented students. Her experience with engineering design in her all-girls FIRST robotics team inspired her to research mechanical design methodologies to make the processes more efficient.
Because of the knowledge she obtained by participating in FIRST robotics activities, Diana was able to become an intern at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL), where she gained exposure to mechanical design as part of the Mechanical Engineering Systems Analysis & Design Group in the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD). She has taken various courses as part of the JHU APL STEM Academy program in order to refine her technical skills, such as Design Thinking, MATLAB, and Robotics.
