International Women in Engineering

June 23rd marks International Women in Engineering Day. Did you know that since 1982, women have earned almost 10 million more college degrees than men? But even though women are earning more degrees, a 2018 survey revealed that only 15% of engineers are women. Celebrating women’s achievements in a traditionally man-dominated field reminds all of us how rewarding our work is. It gives us an opportunity to show off our careers, interests, and achievements. SWE Announces the Recipients of 2022 Annual Awards Program

In June of 2022, SWE announced the recipients of its annual awards program, a nod to those movers and shakers who are making significant contributions to the STEM community and the advancement of women in engineering. SWE Leadership Highlights Organizational Commitment to Women’s & Transgender Rights in Preparing to Host Major Conference in Texas

SWE released this blog post about their increased commitment to creating safe places within its community for transgender and gender-non-conforming individuals ahead of the WE22 conference in Houston that took place earlier in 2022. At WE22 they committed to this message by offering the Rainbow Lounge, encouraged the use of pronouns on badges, and promoted other trans-inclusive policies, such as bathrooms open to all based on gender identity. SWE Diverse Podcast: Baking Impossible Winner Sara Schonour

The co-winner of Netflix’s Baking Impossible, Sara Schonour, joined FY22 SWE President Dayna Johnson on SWE’s podcast, Diverse, back in January 2022. Sara spoke about her journey on the show and how winning it impacted her perspective on engineering.
