On this episode of Diverse, a SWE Podcast, FY23 President Dayna Johnson is joined by Mandeep Gill, the Technical Documentation, Labeling, and UXD Portfolio Manager from Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) Greater India R&D. They sit down to discuss her draw to STEM, her educational journey, and her work with coaching and mentoring young women.

Mandeep Gill brings 19 years of experience in Technical Documentation and User Experience Design. She has worked for Becton Dickinson (BD) for 15 years, and prior to that, with Oracle and Quark.
Currently, she manages a diverse portfolio of Technical Documentation, Labeling, and UXD team members by providing strategic direction and functional management support for their respective projects and business portfolios from the BD Chandigarh R&D center in India. She embodies the “BD Way” in all that she does – driving meaningful business impact, whether it is her day job as a people manager or in volunteer roles – she does what is right and helps each other be great.
Mandeep has spearheaded creating documentation templates and migrating legacy Word documents to a more robust authoring tool. She has led the development of a brand design system and guidelines, a style guide, training videos, and brand awareness campaigns. She has been pivotal in establishing the Technical Writing and UXD team at BD-Chandigarh.
As a volunteer, Mandeep supports BD’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) Associate Resource Group as the WIN+STEM Chandigarh lead and WIN Global Mentoring Advisory Council lead, advisor for the local NEXT ARG chapter, as well as the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) as a Global Ambassador and SWE Mohali Affiliate Committee Member. From the beginning, she was passionate about helping and supporting people around her to grow, develop, and advance.
Through WIN and SWE, she found organizations that support women in all stages of their careers by sharing best practices and experiences without judgment. Two of her programs won “Mentoring” and “Leadership Development within Group” SWE Mission Award Best Practice recognition in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Through her extensive engagement, she continues exploring ways to support women in STEM, increase their visibility, address their challenges, and provide and facilitate mentorship.
Mandeep has been awarded Special Achievement Recognition Award (SARA) and WIN Global Impact Award at BD for her desire to drive mentoring and advocacy efforts.
Mandeep has been married for 15 years; she and her husband have a beautiful 7-year-old daughter: She is an avid traveler, music and art lover, explorer, and keen appreciator of food!
