Every year, between September 15 and October 15, the United States commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month. Every year, there is a theme that supports our cultural heritage. In 2023, Hispanic Heritage Month is all about Prosperity, Power, and Progress. And we couldn’t think of a better way to honor and celebrate this theme than to highlight the stories of many Latinas in STEM and other allies.

Earlier this year, Dr. Justina Sanchez launched the book “Extraordinary Engineers, Volume I: Female Engineers of This Day and Time.” In this book, she brings together stories to inspire us and future generations. The book also includes the stories of nine Latinas in STEM stepping into their own power and creating progress and impact in their respective fields ― along with the stories of other underrepresented women in STEM who also share their passion for their careers and professional journeys.

We couldn’t let this opportunity go by and wanted to highlight and support the stories that come from women just like us. After all, prosperity, power, and progress are better built in community! The SWE Latinos AG is hosting a book club where we’ll read Dr. Sanchez’s book and share insights from these very personal stories.

We kicked off the book club on Tuesday, September 26. We will discuss chapters 1-10 on Tuesday, October 3, at 8 p.m. ET and chapters 11-20 – with a special guest – on Tuesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. ET. We welcome everyone and hope you invite friends and colleagues to join. For more information and to sign up, check out our Google Form.
