2024 Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award: Lori Zipes

The 2024 recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award is Lori Zipes, the first woman to serve as Command Chief Engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division.

Zipes spoke with SWE Past President Jill Tietjen about breaking barriers while advancing critical systems engineering projects in support of the U.S. Navy, offering leadership advice while reflecting on her pivotal career moments, and the importance of walking away from situations that don’t align with your values.

2024 Suzanne Jenniches Upward Mobility Award: Maria Demaree

The 2024 Society of Women Engineers Suzanne Jenniches Upward Mobility Award recipient, endowed by Northrop Grumman Corporation, is Maria Demaree, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin’s National Security Space business.

Demaree spoke with SWE Fellow Linda Freeman about what it means to lead with a “customer-centric, people-first” mindset in engineering, and the mentors who shaped her career and how they influenced her own approach to mentoring others, among other valuable insights from her leadership journey.
