SWE QuatarWe are the SWE International Affiliate from Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ): the only SWE affiliate in the Middle East! We are proudly representing women engineers from all over the globe. Our affiliate has members from Egypt, Kenya, Sudan, Iran, Pakistan and many others, reflecting the diverse nature of our campus. This cultural mix produces a special SWE experience for all of its members.

Our members represent the four different majors at the university: Electrical, Petroleum, Mechanical, and Chemical engineering. Women engineers at our campus represent 40% of the total student body, a percentage that fills us with pride. The affiliate was created to amplify the voices of those students, engage them in the community, and try to change the stereotypical image about women engineers in this region. Our collegiate has been organizing events such as debates, competitions, lectures, and even movie nights. Those events also extend to corporations and other universities, which benefit the whole campus.

In 2016, our SWE president and Vice president travelled to Philadelphia for the SWE Annual Conference for the first time! This gave them a wider perspective about the organization, and how women engineers are strong especially when they all come together. This provided our members with an opportunity to network with our counterparts in the U.S., exchange ideas, and come back and apply them at our campus.

We are hoping to continue supporting each other and empowering the women around us to achieve their dreams. We also hope to spread the word around the Middle East and eventually start a second SWE affiliate in the region.
