On Friday, November 9, Michigan State University celebrated their Alumni Grand Awards, recognizing the best of the best, alumni who are doing wonderful things and making an impact daily in their communities and for MSU. I had the pleasure of attending the awards ceremony where Betty Shanahan, who is a Life Member and Fellow of SWE, was honored with an MSU Alumni Service Award.

The Alumni Service Award is presented to MSU alumni who have demonstrated service to the university and/or meritorious public service on a local, state, national or international level. All of us who know Betty know that this recognition is most deserved.

Betty is currently an Associate Vice President for Administration and Operations at DePaul University. Before joining DePaul, Betty was a consultant to MSU’s Executive Vice President for Administrative Services. For nearly 12 years, from 2002 through 2013, she served as Executive Director and CEO of SWE, helping make a critical impact on the recruitment and advancement of women in the profession. She spent the 24 years prior in development, engineering management, and marketing management for the electronics and software industries.

Betty is truly an inspiration and a role model. Please congratulate her the next time you see her. And… Go Green!
