SWE Magazine earned in the 2019 FOLIO: Eddie and Ozzie competition were one top award and its first recognition for a podcast. In addition to the top award, accolades included eight honorable mentions in both editorial and design.

The FOLIO awards celebrate “uncompromising journalism and gorgeous design” across all sectors of the publishing industry. The Eddies recognize excellence in content creation, while the Ozzies acknowledge distinction in design. Determined by dozens of judges from across the industry, this year’s winners were selected from more than 2,500 entries.

The winners of the prestigious awards were announced at a formal banquet in New York City in October, with more than 300 magazine and digital media professionals in attendance.

In the Eddies portion of the competition, SWE Magazine took home top honors for the Spring 2019 issue.

Earning the magazine its first FOLIO recognition for a podcast, “SWE Stories: Tales from the Archives Podcast: The Trouble with Celebrating Firsts” received an honorable mention. The podcast was created and presented by Anne Perusek, director of editorial and publications, and Troy Eller English, SWE’s archivist.

The State of Women in Engineering 2019 garnered two honorable mentions — one in the App/Digital Edition category and the other for a Supplemental/Annual/One Shot publication.

Earning honorable mentions in the Column/Blog category were: “Early Takeaways from the Ad Council’s New STEM Diversity Campaign,” written by SWE contributor Jon Reisfeld, and “Redefining the Way Back to Work,” a Career Pathways article written by SWE contributor Sandra Guy. Both articles appeared in the Conference 2018 issue.

From the Spring 2019 issue, “The Programming Pioneers of ENIAC,” written by SWE contributor Seabright McCabe, and “Women Engineers You Should Know,” by Sandra Guy, received honorable mentions for feature writing.

In the Ozzies segment, Art Director JoAnn Dickey’s cover design of the Conference 2018 issue earned an honorable mention.

SWE Magazine also received recognition for publishing excellence through the APEX Awards competition in 2019, earning one Grand Award, the competition’s highest honor, and eight awards for publishing excellence.
