Episode 87: Balancing Work and Mom Life as an Engineer- APAHM

In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), SWE is highlighting Asian American and Pacific Islander women engineers. For our second podcast during APAHM, Jenny Morikawa, SWE’s Asian Connections Affinity Group Advisor, interviews Angela Lo, solution quality engineer at IBM and Sowmya Nagesh, senior engineering technical lead at Caterpillar Inc. In this episode, they discuss how they balance work and mom life as Asian Pacific American women and lessons they have learned since working from home during this time.

About Jenny Morikawa:Podcast: Balancing Work And Mom Life As An Engineer- Apahm

Jennifer Chen Morikawa is a senior manufacturing project engineer at General Motors. She has served in numerous SWE leadership roles including president of the Detroit Section, the Society’s Awards & Recognition Chair, Region Governor, and WE Local Advisory Board member.  She is raising two energetic boys with the support of her husband and part-time live-in parents. Jennifer is a 2nd generation Taiwanese American whose extended family is a melting pot of multi-Asian cultures.

About Angela Lo:Podcast: Balancing Work And Mom Life As An Engineer- Apahm

Angela Lo works at IBM as a Solution Quality Engineer. When she is not working, she has three wonderfully rascally children, a supportive husband, and a huge extended family to spend time with. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Angela did her Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. She is relatively new to SWE and keeps herself busy with baking, cooking (with her instant pot) and anything that requires creativity.

About Sowmya Nagesh:Podcast: Balancing Work And Mom Life As An Engineer- Apahm

Sowmya Nagesh is an Engineering Technical Lead at Caterpillar Inc. She is an executive council member and was FY18 president of the Central Illinois Section of the Society of Women Engineers. Sowmya serves SWE on the Outreach and Program Development Grant committees. She is leading the global R&D India workgroup in the outreach committee. Sowmya is a relatively recent immigrant from India and is married to a ‘meat and potatoes’ midwestern engineer. They are raising two children in Peoria, IL. To say the least, it has been an everyday cultural crossroads at home.
