As the 2021 virtual WE Local Europe Conference approaches, what better time to introduce the WE Local Europe Advisory Board!  We are delighted to welcome this team of talented women, who collectively represent diverse engineering backgrounds working across disciplines and spanning many European countries. The Advisory Board will assist in providing content direction and regional insight for the SWE Europe conference and other initiatives. Meet The 2021 We Local Europe Advisory Board“I will ensure that we bring the best of the best to Europe in 2021 for all fantastic women engineers out there.” – Cathy Sinclair

Cathy Sinclair is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 25 years’ experience in Risk Engineering at FM Global in Maidenhead, UK.  She has a long history with WE Local, having attended events in Madrid in 2016 and Amsterdam 2017.  She says, “I was blown away by the variety of the sessions, the quality of the presenters and the number of other fantastic women engineers that I met”.  Cathy is looking forward to the opportunity to share her previous experiences with WE Local to ensure we bring the best of the best to Europe in 2021.

Meet The 2021 We Local Europe Advisory Board Tutku Kılıçaslan is a Senior Industrial Engineering and Business Administration student at Koç University in Turkey. She is working as a Business Analyst at a software company and pursuing a master’s degree in Data Science after her graduation. For Tutku, being a SWE Advisory Board member means working closely with role models and having a global business perspective.  At the event itself, she is most excited to virtually visit the booths and hopes to identify UK internship opportunities there. Tutku’s hobbies are yoga, ballet, and figure skating.

Meet The 2021 We Local Europe Advisory BoardMarwa El Hefnawy loves WE Local conferences for the inspirational stories and experiences they bring to women engineers from around the world. Sharing knowledge, learning new skills, and networking are always great goals which are achieved at the conference. She is an experienced LTE and 5G physical layer wireless systems engineer with expertise in modem roadmap definition and wireless ecosystems. She is currently a senior telecom and electrical engineer at a high-tech company and a global ambassador for SWE. Through her role on the advisory board, Marwa is glad to have the opportunity to contribute to WE Local’s inspirational spirit, and to help connect women engineers together.

Katrina Simpson is most looking forward to meeting more of our wonderful members at the conference.  She has worked for several organizations in the Power Industry, and is currently working in Aachen, Germany as a Customer Applications Engineer for INNIO Jenbacher Gmbh.

Meet The 2021 We Local Europe Advisory BoardJo Stansfield, Global lead – Diversity and Inclusion, AVEVA

Jo has 20 years’ experience delivering enterprise software to global industry, spanning oil & gas, automotive, aerospace and marine sectors. With experience in product management, software engineering and leadership roles, Jo has led globally distributed teams to develop high-quality software, meeting customers’ needs in engineering domains.

As a passionate advocate for gender diversity in technology and engineering, Jo is committed to lead change within her organization, industry and community. Having pivoted her focus from the technical to human dimensions of engineering, Jo now works in HR leading Global Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.  She is reaching completion of an MSc in Organisational and Business Psychology, with thesis research topic “Lessons for Gender and Racial Diversity within Technology”.

Marwa El Hefnawy, Senior Telecom and Electrical Engineer, High Tech Company

Marwa is an experienced LTE and 5G Physical Layer wireless systems engineer with expertise in modem roadmap definition and wireless ecosystem. She received her B.Sc. degree in electrical and communications engineering, with highest honor, from the German University in Cairo. She did her bachelor project at Stuttgart University in Germany. She pursued her M.Sc. studies at Ulm University. She received her PhD degree from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) under the supervision of Prof. Gerhard Kramer. During her PhD studies, she worked at NTT-Docomo Euro Labs having a research focus on 5G. She is currently working at a high-tech company on 5G topics and beyond. Marwa’s hobbies are painting, reading novels and playing sports. She is also a Global ambassador for SWE.
