SWE Member Named 2015 Outstanding Young Alumna of Michigan Tech
Michigan Technological University has named SWE professional member Britta Jost its Outstanding Young Alumna of 2015. Jost is a senior engineer in large structures design engineering at Caterpillar and a senior member of SWE’s Central Illinois section.
She joined Caterpillar in 2005 after graduating with a bachelor’s in mathematics and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech. She has worked in the dynamic simulation area, using software to build and run computer models of track-type tractors. Her simulations have been used to evaluate operator comfort, performance and tractor durability. She is also Caterpillar’s lead engineering recruiter at Michigan Tech.
She was awarded her first patent last year, and Tweeted a photo of herself accepting it while she was eight months pregnant as part of SWE’s #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign.

She was the FY15 Membership Committee Chair and is Counselor for the Michigan Tech SWE section.
