Each month, the Society of Women Engineers puts the spotlight on one of our valued staff members. For December, we feature Jennifer Scott.
Swe Staff Spotlight: Jennifer Scott
[social_warfare]

Jennifer Scott currently leads all global development efforts at SWE.  This includes the expansion and execution of the Corporate Partnership Council, a group consisting of 85 of SWE’s most prominent supporters.  She also develops and executes the strategy for corporate, private and government grants.  Scott was the program lead for a bilateral India symposium (from inception/fundraising to evaluation) which now serves as a model for SWE’s conferences outside the U.S.  Scott is the co-founder of the STEM Reentry Task Force.  The STEM Re-entry Task Force is an initiative to increase the number of technical women in the STEM sector by providing support to women who are returning from a career break through partnering with organizations in creating their own “returnship” program. It is designed to produce structural change in the STEM sector with internships as a vehicle for engaging women returning to the technical space.

Prior to joining SWE, Jennifer worked on development processes and strategic planning initiatives for organizations such as Rock For Reading, DonorsChoose, Community Organizing and Family Issues, BuildOn! and City Year Chicago. Much of Jennifer’s work has focused on partnering with donors, recruitment and team development, volunteer training, grant writing and fundraising support for the membership of these respective organizations and the communities that they serve.

Who is your role model and why?
I have many role models. My family as a whole, starting with my parents and including my sister and brother are strong role models in my life. Their compass points due north: their love and respect for their fellow person; strong belief in the power of community; and the knowledge that you can make a difference. These ideals and principles guide me on my life journey.

Favorite sports team?
Everyone who knows me and probably anyone who has met me knows that I am a fan of hockey.  Living in Chicago, even in this losing season, I love cheering for the Chicago Blackhawks.  GO HAWKS!

If you could eat one thing the rest of your life what would it be?
French fries – no contest.  If you make it cheese fries with Merkts Cheddar – I am in heaven.

What is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is the amazing people that I get to meet as well as work and partner with: my co-workers at HQ; SWE Global Ambassadors and Affiliate leads; SWE’s amazing collegiate and professional members; and leaders in organizations making a difference in the engineering and technology field by partnering with SWE in activating our mission.
