Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) is an active Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Dow Central Engineering Center, Chennai. Among the various initiatives organized and conducted by WIN, a SWE Advance Learning Center course is among the successful initiatives of the 2018 year.
With an objective to empower women with substantial soft skills required for leadership, WIN initiated the online web presentations of the Leadership Competency Model (LCM), offered by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) website at CEC. 15 interested candidates were identified and offered membership. The candidates were asked to formulate their own professional vision/mission and undertake the assessment test which evaluated their proficiency level in categories like leadership abilities, communication, business acumen, self-management/awareness, coaching, mentoring, and sponsorship. The candidates were given a month’s time for completing each module offline and then invited to do a “Share and Learn session” on each topic. Undoubtedly, the learnings shared in these interactive sessions mirrored the commitment of the candidates in using the course materials effectively. The modules included important topics such as Leadership Styles, Modes of Communication, Feedback Fundamentals, Leading Teams, and Business Knowledge & Acumen. A final wrap-up session was conducted on 8th Jan, 2019 in the presence of CEC leaders Martin Rogers (CEO – Dow Chennai) and Thorsten Gehrke (Instrumental Department Leader), wherein all the candidates shared their takeaways from this course. The feedback from leaders—“This is straight out of MBA and is meant to be propagated to a larger crowd”—was the grand finale and a remarkable milestone of this wonderful journey.
After seeing the benefits, Dow planned to extend the support by offering sponsorship benefits to the interested candidates across Dow globally. This year (2019-20), we have shortlisted the interesting and relevant topics from the online webinar resource pool. Candidates are invited to a share & learn session on the selected topic of the day. We are continuing these course discussions on the last Wednesday of every month.
