This article was written by Julia Hines, a SWENext Transitions Work Group Volunteer with the Student Programs Committee.

Late last year, the Student Programs (SWENext) Committee ran a video competition to benefit SWENexters. SWE collegiate sections were encouraged to create a three-minute video about what makes their college and SWE section great, along with information about their school’s engineering department.

SWENext students can watch these videos here to learn about colleges across the country and about why being a SWE member in college is a great experience.

Twenty schools submitted amazing videos that showcased their love for engineering, SWE, and their colleges and universities. Thank you to all the collegiate SWE sections who submitted videos!  And thanks to all the volunteer judges (SWE members and SWENexters) who helped determine the top three videos.

Congratulations to the winners!

1st place

Drexel University – $500 to be used for a future K-12 Outreach event

2nd place

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo – $300 to be used for a future K-12 Outreach event

3rd place

Valparaiso University – $200 to be used for a future K-12 Outreach event

All videos are available on the SWENext YouTube Channel playlist for SWENexters to view.  Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for free to be notified when new SWENext videos are uploaded.

This competition will be run again next fall so that more collegiate sections can participate and add their own voices and videos to our growing playlist. We encourage any collegiate section who missed out this year to submit your own videos next time!
